Red Quiet

How? and Why?

June 22nd, 2009

This Sunday we will join our friends GIBBY & the BUZZKILLS for their CD release party at the Middle East Upstairs, with two other bands: “twisted animation” and “the last second.” You should listen to the Buzzkills song “Detroit Soul.” It’s pretty slick. I made this flyer from an image I found on the net. It is apparently an x-ray of the lower intestine of a farmer. Two robbers broke into his home and stole his buffalo. Instead of tying him up to make sure he couldn’t chase them down, they shoved a pepsi bottle up his patookis. The world is a strange, strange place. Kind of reminds me of that time when

Oh, and btw… thanks to everyone who came out to the Roller Derby extravaganza this weekend. Special thanks to Scotty Hues for running sound. That was awesome.

Skate Free or Die

June 9th, 2009

Red Quiet live… Saturday June 20 at the BLue Shamrock in Lowell, MA. We’ll be joined by Bar Sinister and the New Collisions. This is a benefit for SKATE FREE OR DIE! New Hampshire Roller Derby. Three members of the quiet (guess which) are excited to pull the old switcharoo and defect to the New Hampshire Roller Derby. The other doesn’t give a shit. Nevertheless the Quiet are in UNANIMOUS AGREEMENT that when and if a FIGHT BREAKS OUT behind a bar, on stage, in an alleyway, at the bowling alley, in whole foods… wherever… NEW HAMPSHIRE skaters would KICK THE FUCK out of Boston.

Which is why we are proud to join the bill. Paul Benson will be wearing roller skates, by the way.

SOUND W/SOUND

June 1st, 2009

This Friday, June 5 @ the Tavern at the End of the World Red Quiet’s very own Tom M.F. Mattos will join Friendly Square Extraordinaire Abram Taber for an evening of Sound Collage, Sound Design and Annoying Noises. Come have a couple of drinks and listen passively and congratulate them even if you think it sucks. Special guests are a major possibility.

The Seagull Factor

May 6th, 2009

Following the great show at TT’s on Saturday, the folks at Boston Band Crush saw fit to blog the entire show. Our friends Talk Modern opened the night; they’ve quickly become my own personal Queens of the Stone Age. Just after they finished, Hypernova—up from New York and originally from Tehran, Iran—treated us to another performance. We had the chance to play with them a few months ago at TT the Bear’s, and it was good to hang out with them again after their tour down to SXSW.

We took the stage in front of a full house. Colin was in full form, wending his way off the stage and around the bar. There are great photos here courtesy of Mike Epstein of the Motion Sick. After the Somerville open studios invaded my house (basically resulting in an afternoon of drinking on my front porch and talking art with dozens of passersby), whatever nuance I have in my fingers gave way to a drunken, brash assault on my lovely guitars (sorry Crazy White Chick, sorry Maggie). Result: I broke a string on stage for the first time in about a year. I play with ultra-thin pics. Kind of hard to do. Even for Bobby Dynamite.

We finished the set with our newest song. Here it is in all it’s grainy glory: The Seagull Factor

Closing out the night were the Motion Sick. It was exciting to finally play a show with the band that is in my opinion—and the boston pheonix’s—best in Boston. And hats off to them for filling in on short notice.

We’re going to be dormant for a little more than a month while we begin recording our first full-length album. But that will be quickly followed with several shows all over Boston, and a short tour around the great lakes at the end of the summer.

Until then, we’ll be writing songs and watching baseball. Go yankees.

Red Quiet 2.0

May 3rd, 2009

After about 6 hours of confused clicking, I’ve finally been able to create this simple blog/website. It’s nice to have everything integrated. Our Facebook/Myspace/Blog/Twitter should be all linked together now, which is pretty cool. You’ll be able to find all of the relevant information here (show info, project info, general nonsense), as well as links to any of our other sites. But now we don’t need to pull our hair out updating three different sites every day, invariably forgetting one. Then the myspace peoples get left out, or the facebooks never knew we had a show.

Please feel free to subscribe. Also check out our twitter feed. You’ll receive messages like: “Red Quiet bakes candy into beauty cakes.” Or, my personal favorite: “Red Quiet has a loose emotional sphincter.” And the fact that this nonsense can be IMMEDIATELY sent to your PHONE? Fuck. Yeah.

Someone please leave a comment so we know this is working right.

And a warm thank you to everyone who came out to TT’s last night. It was nice to see a room full of people who could give a shit about basketball.

Red Quiet is on the couch, drunk, listening to devendre. Thanks to the peoples.
